Health & Safety

The health, safety and security of each of our campers are our primary concern. Our year round professional staff of 5 focuses on the overall quality of our campers’ experiences during the summer months and beyond.

Health Center

Staffed 24 hours daily by:

  • 4 Registered Nurses
  • 1 In camp doctor
  • Medical specialists on call
  • Two Health calls daily
  • 6-bed day room
  • 8-bed private air-conditioned facility
  • Local hospital 10 minutes away
  • Portland Maine Medical (25 miles)

Safety/Security

  • Accredited by the American Camping Association
  • Member of the Maine Youth Camping Association
  • Member of the American Independent Camp Association
  • Staff are personally interviewed and screened for appropriate positions
  • Multiple reference checks required
  • Criminal background investigation required by outside organization
  • 7 day staff orientation required for all staff members (new and returning)
  • Staff continuously evaluated while camp is in session
  • All cabins equipped with fire and smoke detection devices
  • Staff and campers practice scheduled fire and emergency drills throughout summer
  • Night security guard system

Food & Nutrition

Meal times at Camp Mataponi are synonymous with FUN!

The whole camp eats together and the cheering and singing is so contagious that you might even forget why you’re in the dining room.

The entire food service is prepared fresh daily by our 4 chefs/12 support staff and is supervised by Aramark Food Service. Aramark is known for their variety and freshness and most importantly health standards. They have been serving Camp Mataponi for 17 summers.

  • All meals are prepared fresh daily, are served buffet and family style and campers sit with their bunks.
  • Our healthy menus are designed with childrens' tastes in mind while keeping with a diet that is nutritious and balanced
  • 25 item salad bar is served daily at lunch and dinner
  • Vegetarian substitutes are available
  • Breakfast choices are nearly endless with a hot entrée, choice of cold cereals, fruit, bagels and more
  • Fresh fruit available throughout the day
  • A daily mid afternoon snack offers treats and fresh fruit
  • Weekly BBQ’s and dress up theme dinners are some of the more popular meals (ie: Under the Sea, Safari, Super Hero,Western night, etc.)
  • Evening snacks provided every night at evening activity
