James and Laura Donaldson

James has been a fixture on the Mataponi Waterfront since 1996. Originally from New Zealand, he spent summers as a water-ski instructor and waterfront director before joining the Mataponi team fulltime in 2003. He is our resident American Red Cross expert, holding Instructor level certificates in Lifeguarding, CPR, and Swim Instruction.

Laura has spent her summers at Mataponi since 2002.  Over the years she has held positions as a counselor, unit leader, athletic director, and now assists Marcy in making sure that camp’s programming is running smoothly. Her love for children led her to pursue a career in teaching, and she holds a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Indiana. Even when not at camp, Laura is still surrounded by children. She has been teaching Kindergarten at a local school since moving to Florida in 2005.

James & Laura met as camp counselors at Mataponi, and were married in 2009. When not at camp they call Jupiter, FL their home. They now share their love of Mataponi and Maine with their daughter Emma.
