MATA-MONDAY (Tuesday edition)

This past weekend, a very special fund raiser, The DBA Foundation, brought together many Camp Mataponi alumni and their families to honor and remember an inspirational “camp dad” and friend , Danny Allanoff.  Hannah (Senior 2012) and Molly aka Maia (Senior 2009) joined their mom and brother as they raised awareness and donations at the 4th annual Daniel B Allanoff Foundation to advance research of blood cancers.

More than 300 friends and supporters joined the Allanoff family in honoring another Mataponi family parent, Margie Sherr. Margie, mom to alumni Steph (Senior 2012) and Sara (Senior 2009) has raised thousands of dollars for the Foundation combining her love for biking with her desire to contribute meaningfully to an important cause.

Monday, May 1: Mother Goose Day

Believe it or not, Mother Goose dates back to 1650’s (that what google actually told us) but the holiday was only recently created to celebrate stories like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty.

Tuesday, May 2:  Brothers and Sisters Day

Brothers and Sisters Day is a day to cherish your siblings. Sure, there are times when you love your brothers and sisters. And, there’s times when you want to disown them. All in all, having a brother and/or a sister or two, is invaluable. The older you get, the more you learn to appreciate them.

Wednesday, May 3: Lumpy Rug Day

This was written up as a real holiday but no idea why

Thursday, May 4:   Star Wars Day

The origin of the holiday comes from a play on words “may the force be with you” an often quoted phrase in the Star Wars movies.

Friday, May 5:   Cinco De Mayo

On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French army at the Battle of Puebla. This single military battle signified defeat of a European colonial power, and a victory for the Mexican people. This single battle was the roots of Cinco de Mayo.

Saturday, May 6:  National Nurses Day

Thank a nurse today for being so selfless and always putting others before themselves

Sunday, May 7:    World Laughter Day

What an awesome holiday- be sure to smile at everyone you meet today and share a joke
